Restoration and Justice Clinic Update
Since the pandemic hit, domestic violence and human trafficking surged in L.A. Since
March 2020, the Restoration and Justice Clinic adapted to help survivors remotely.
Court-certified law students met with clients and potential clients by phone and Zoom,
helped clients complete court forms and paperwork, and counseled clients on how to
stay safe during the pandemic.
This summer, the clinic partnered with the UCI Domestic Violence Clinic to represent
a common client with matters in Los Angeles and Orange County. This fall semester,
students are navigating opening and closing courts to file petitions on behalf of
human trafficking victims to vacate their criminal records.
Professor Tanya Cooper directs the Restoration and Justice Clinic and supervises students' work.
