Pepperdine/Straus American Inn of Court for Dispute Resolution Holds Joint Social at Jonathan Club Santa Monica
June 25, 2018 | On June 20, in celebration of the successful first year of the Pepperdine/Straus American Inn of Court for Dispute Resolution, Inn members met for an evening social reception at the Jonathan Club on Santa Monica beach. Joining them was the faculty of the Straus Institute's 31st Annual Summer Professional Skills Program in Dispute Resolution, for which classes began the following day on the Pepperdine campus in Malibu. Caryn Worcester, West Coast Representative for the American Inns of Court organization based in Washington, D.C., attended and presented the Officers and Executive Committee of the Pepperdine/Straus Inn with a framed copy of its Charter to commemorate the Inn's first year of operation.
The American Inns of Court began with discussions in the late 1970s among the United States members of the Anglo-American Exchange of Lawyers and Judges, including Chief Justice of the United States Warren E. Burger and Judge J. Clifford Wallace of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. The first American Inn of Court was founded on February 2, 1980, and today there are more than 450 American Inns chartered in 48 states, Washington D.C., Guam, and Tokyo.
Continuing the tradition of mentoring students and young professionals, the Pepperdine/Straus Inn is modeled on and affiliated with the American Inns of Court, associating more than 30,000 lawyers, judges, professors and other legal professionals nationally from all levels and backgrounds who share a passion for excellence, civility, professionalism and ethics, and is dedicated to offering the highest caliber dispute resolution professional education programs providing MCLE credit. Membership is by invitation, in categories defined by practitioner experience levels.
Lunch and dinner program meetings and social events will be held in Beverly Hills, Century City, West LA, Malibu, and Irvine during the upcoming 2018-2019 academic year, beginning in September and continuing through June, 2019.
