Professor Sukhsimranjit Singh Presents on Mediating with Religious Values to Tennessee Association of Professional Mediators
On April 8, Professor Sukhsimranjit Singh presented on a panel discussion, “Mediating with Religious Values,” at the Annual Advanced Mediation Skills Training for the Tennessee Association of Professional Mediators. The online audience of over 100 mediation professionals listened to Professors Singh and Dwight Golann, as well as Mr. Larry Bridgesmith, who serves as the Inaugural Executive Director of the Institute for Conflict Management at Lipscomb University.
The panelists viewed video excerpts of Christian and Muslim mediators and discussed how religious values play into the mediation process. Professor Singh also discussed practice-related and ethical issues that may arise as religious values are invoked. The panel provided an opportunity for reflection by participants and included a discussion of the role of culture in these types of conflicts.
