International Study FAQ

Contents

Q. Am I eligible to apply?

A. All graduate students in good standing are eligible to apply. In addition, professionals from legal, dispute resolution, and commercial fields are welcome to apply. If the professional is not currently enrolled in a graduate program, then the professional may audit the course.

Q. Will I receive course credit?

A. The Study Tours are designed as two-credit courses. Credit will be awarded once participants have met the course requirements. See Course Work for more information.

Please note that it is unlikely that participation in a foreign summer law program may be used to accelerate graduation. Pepperdine students interested in acceleration are referred to the Pepperdine Caruso Law School Catalog (The "Academic Policies" section and the "Early Graduation" section contained therein). Visiting students interested in acceleration are referred to their home schools to review this point in light of ABA Standard for Approval of Law Schools 304, Interpretation 4.

Q. How will I be graded?

A. Our study tour courses are graded on a pass/fail basis. However, if you are a visiting student and require an actual grade for transfer credit please notify our office to make the necessary arrangements.

Q. Can I attend the program and audit the classes?

A. Yes. Because auditors do not receive course credit, tuition expenses are less. Please contact the Straus Institute for more information.

Q. How many participants will be selected?

A. Typically, we select 20-24 participants. Participants may bring a guest who is welcome to join the group on all of the tourist activities.

Q. Will I need a passport?

A. Yes. As it can take varying amounts of time to obtain a passport, please apply no later than March 15th. We will need a copy of the first page of your passport and/or verification that you have applied for one. More information can be found at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports.html Please leave a photocopy of your passport with your family or leave a copy at the Straus office. This will expedite reissue of your passport should yours be lost.

Q. Will I need a Visa?

A. Students enrolled in the Asian Study Tour will need a tourist visa. We will contact you with further information about this application process once you have enrolled. Students enrolled in the London/Geneva Study Tour will not need a visa if they are American. International students will speak with the program administrator for individual requirements.

Q. Will I need vaccines?

A. No. However, please visit the Center for Disease Control https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel for specific travel guidelines.
