Summer Immigration and Asylum Stipend-Funded Positions

Applications due: April 5, 2019 | We have received generous funding for up to five student positions at Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles to support access to justice for immigrants involved in asylum and detention proceedings. Here is the position announcement posted by CDO.

The School of Law has received generous funding for stipends to support students working in immigration and asylum matters. In partnership with the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles ("LAFLA"), the School of Law and LAFLA are accepting applications for a rare paid public interest legal internship opportunity. The successful candidates will receive a $2,500-$3,000 stipend, depending on time commitment. Please note that the candidate will also be able to obtain externship credit for the position.

Anticipated duties include:

Helping LAFLA defend immigrants at risk of removal from the United States. Assisting staff attorneys in conducting intake at the immigration court detention docket as well as local immigration detention centers, and analyzing relief available before an immigration judge. If case is accepted for representation by LAFLA, assisting in preparing motions, assembling evidence for relief applications, and representing immigrants before local immigration judges.

Positions are available for 2Ls and 3Ls. Fluency in language other than English preferred.
