Straus Institute Represented at 2023 ABA Dispute Resolution Conference
Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution staff and faculty attended the American Bar Association Dispute Resolution Section’s spring conference on May 10-12 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The three day event brought together several hundred dispute resolution practitioners and ADR educators from across the country to examine how ADR professionals can navigate a climate of divisiveness and lead the way towards empowerment and self-advocacy to positively influence the present and future ADR landscape.
Dean Sukhsimranjit Singh was in attendance, along with professor Stephanie Blondell, who served on a panel. They were joined by executive director Shellee Warnes, director Shaphan Roberts, and associate directors Sherri Sturgeon and Deborah Jasmin, who attended in representation of the Caruso Law and Straus Institute community. The team was also joined by the newest Straus member, assistant professor of law and practice, Helen Winter. The event offered the opportunity to connect with many students and alumni, including Benjamin Wilson (JD/MDR ‘17) who was a panelist at the event, and to share the trainings, programs and events taking place at Straus.
The event included an awards ceremony in which adjunct faculty member, Colin Rule, was honored with the D’Alemberte/Raven Award in recognition of his contributions to the field of alternative dispute resolution, particularly for his work in online dispute resolution or ODR. Straus community partner, Western Justice Center, was also awarded the JAMS Foundation Waren Knight Distinguished Service Award for its work empowering people to strengthen their communities by growing conflict resolutions skills and capacity of youth, educators, schools and community partners.
