Professor Tiffany Williams Develops Curriculum and Leads Training at the African Union Commission Symposium

Assistant Professor of Legal Research and Writing Tiffany Williams was invited by the US State Department and the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ROLI) to develop a training in legal writing and legal drafting for lawyers and technical staff working in the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The training was a part of the project Professionalize African Union Staff for Rule of Law Initiatives.

Williams led participants of the week-long intensive in her course titled "Legal Writing & Legal Drafting Symposium." The participants represented eleven different countries including Sao Tome, Kenya, Ethiopia, Egypt, Burkina Faso, Uganda, Zambia, Ghana, South Sudan, Cote D'Ivoire, and Cameroon.

On 28 September 2018, the African Union Commission (AUC) and the Government of the United States of America signed a Letter of Agreement on Rule of Law (LOA) and Criminal Justice Assistance, the purpose of which is to provide training, mentorship, capacity building, and material support to AUC staff involved in the implementation of good governance rule of law projects

The entire initiative is funded by the Government of the United States of America, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, and implemented by ABA ROLI.
