Professor Sukhsimranjit Singh Speaks at United States Central District Court Advanced Mediation Workshop
Professor Sukhsimranjit Singh spoke to over 90 panel mediators for the United States District Court of the Central District of California in a virtual Advanced Mediation Workshop on June 15. Addressing “Cross-Cultural Wisdom in Advanced Mediations,” Professor Singh examined how obvious and not-so-obvious cultural differences impact the resolution of disputes. He explored ways in which differences in language, customs, values, legal systems, and world views influence conflicts and the dispute resolution processes used to resolve them, identifying practical skills and strategies that may be employed to enhance effectiveness in cross-cultural contexts.
Professor Singh was invited to speak at the event by adjunct professor Stacie Hausner, who spoke on "Mediation Triage: How to Avoid Obstacles to Settlement.” Professor Hausner discussed how to break impasse by setting the bargaining table for success and keeping the parties engaged.
