The complete article may be found here.Instead of leaning into potential change and advocating for a student-athlete's rights to their own image, the NCAA is again going the other way. The association, which governs 24 sports, is threatening to remove more than 24,000 student-athletes in California from the national playing pool. Maureen Arellano Weston, a professor of law at Pepperdine University who has written extensively on the subject of athlete likeness, said this is a typically aggressive response by the NCAA under Emmert's direction.
"Mark Emmert tends to come out pretty strong,""Weston told 247Sports. "He said he'd take Ed O'Bannon to the Supreme Court rather than sitting down and saying, ‘We want to understand what the concerns are so we can be more collaborative as an association to try to create some rules that are deemed fairer.'"
