Pop Up Clinic Hosted by Pepperdine Legal Aid and Tax Clinics
October 16, 2018 | The Pepperdine Legal Aid and Tax Clinics hosted their first pop up clinic at the Union Rescue Mission last week. Students began by hosting a donation drive at Pepperdine in the weeks leading up to the event, collecting toiletries and socks to share with the participants, as well as preparing accessible info sessions on a variety of legal topics. During the clinic, under the supervision of professors Brittany Stringfellow Otey and Isai Cortez, the students rotated around the Union Rescue Mission's day room, speaking to small groups about issues ranging from tickets and warrants, to child custody and tax. Students assisted more than 100 men and women experiencing homelessness (and are now meeting with the 41 participants who requested follow up appointments). At the conclusion of the event, the students were able to share the socks and toiletries donated by the Pepperdine community.
