Pepperdine Caruso Law Students Visit the Library of Congress
Pepperdine Caruso Law students participating in the Washington, DC, Externship Semester visited the Library of Congress, where they were treated to a rare book display with Nathan Dorn, Curator of Rare Books at the Law Library of Congress.
Among the texts they viewed were a 1450 manuscript of the Nova Statuta Angliae (New Statues of England), an 1871 book of collected Cherokee laws written in Cherokee syllabary, and a 1794 sea letter (a passport for ships), signed by George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, then President and Secretary of State, respectively.
In addition to the rare book display, while at the Law Library of Congress, students attended a legislative-history-research training session with law librarian Barbara Bavis. The students then toured the Jefferson Building, the main Library of Congress building.
