MLK Weekend: Building on a Home in Mexico

by Arron Echols (JD/MBA '10),

This trip was extremely satisfying and reminded me of the things that were truly important in life. It was so refreshing to see people love God and enjoy life when they were living with so little by American standards. Even though it only took 2 ½ days to accomplish, building this home for the family was one of, if not the, most satisfying things I have done. It was fantastic to have a chance to provide the basic need of shelter for a family and feel like I really made a difference. The highlight of the trip was being able to pray with and for the family after we built the house. Even though I understand very little Spanish, I was moved to hear the family thank God for the Americans and their work, and the mother was so happy that she was almost in tears as she prayed. I am very thankful for this chance to work, develop relationships, and reflect on what life is really about.
