Kampala Restaurant Week

Restaurant week has been a proven tradition amongst many major cities around the World including Cape Town, London, New York and Tokyo. The first annual Kampala Restaurant Week took place from 2nd June – 13th June 2015. All Kampala residents and visitors had 12 days to try  and rate as many restaurants as they want.

ThePearlGuide.co.ug  teamed up with chefs from thirty of the finest restaurants in the city to create one-of-a-kind menus to tickle a diner's taste buds. All 30 participating restaurants offered a Casual menu at UGX 15,000 ($5) and a special Signature menu of their choice at UGX 25,000 ($8). No Tickets, No Vouchers, No Bookings. You simply walk in to any of the participating restaurants, sit down, and eat.

I used the opportunity of Kampala Restaurant Week to try food I've been wanting to taste for some time, but for various reasons hadn't got around to it. My idea was that if the experience during restaurant week was good enough then it might merit a repeat visit. Overall I visited three restaurants and all of them were excellent.

PIATO RESTAURANT

A world-class Dining Experience with one of the best authentically prepared foods in Kampala. Piato is Kampala's premier continental grill and dining experience with cuisines from Italy and Africa.

MANTRA

I tried several Indian restaurants in Kampala but Mantra is the best. I am vegetarian and every time I go to the restaurant I get less choice of food, but is definitely no lack of vegetarian food in Mantra. Mantra's authentic Indian cuisine combined with aesthetically pleasing ambiance will captivate your senses and leave you spellbound!

MEDITERRANEO RESTAURANT

This restaurant has one of the finest menus in town, the decor is lovely and cozy and makes a great place to meet with friends.

During the Restaurant Week, diners were asked to rate their restaurant experiences on the Official Restaurant Week Webpage by rating restaurants on 1 to 10 scale with consideration to ambiance, food, service and general amenities. My rating was 10 for all 3 restaurants that I visited.

I think that Kampala Restaurant Week, was a remarkable success in its first edition. The most obvious question about Kampala Restaurant Week is, "Was it worth the excitement?" My short answer is YES.
