John Joanem (JD '91) Takes Oath as Circuit Judge in Nineteenth Judicial Circuit Court

On December 5, Pepperdine Caruso Law alumnus John L. Joanem (JD '91) took the oath of office as circuit judge in the 4th Sub-Circuit of the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit in Lake County, Illinois. He fills the position previously held by Judge Diane E. Winter.

Joanem comments, ""It is an honor to be elected to serve the people of Lake County, Illinois. I am grateful to life-long Pepperdine friends who supported me with their encouragement and who traveled here to assist me during the campaign."

Judge Joanem received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in 1988 and earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1991 from Pepperdine University School of Law. He previously served as a sole practitioner, a special public defender and a felony conflict public defender for the Lake County Public Defender’s Office, and corporate counsel, city attorney and general counsel for the City of Waukegan.
