Jedidiah Segura Awarded 2019-2020 CLEA Outstanding Clinical Student Award

The Pepperdine Caruso Law clinical faculty nominated Jedidiah Segura as the 2019-2020 Clinical Legal Education Association (CLEA) Outstanding Clinical Student Award for excellence in clinical fieldwork and for exceptionally thoughtful, self-reflective participation in an accompanying clinical seminar.

Each year, CLEA solicits nominations from law schools for their Outstanding Clinical Student or Team to honor law students who have excelled in a clinical course. Jedidiah has been awarded for his exemplary work in the Pepperdine Caruso Law Faith and Family Mediation Clinic, supervised by Professors Sarah Nissel and Yona Elishis.

Professor Sarah Nissel wrote the following in her nomination for Jedidiah's work in the clinic, which provides mediation services to divorcing Jewish couples in civil and religious courts in collaboration with the Jewish Divorce Assistance Center of Los Angeles:

Jed has been an exemplary student throughout our course and in every aspect of the clinic. He was involved in one particularly complex case where after many months of progress, the divorce mediation suddenly was on the cusp of failure...With Jed by our side, we worked with the parties to salvage the mediation. It was extremely emotional and depleting. He showed his commitment to the clinic, his mediation skills and his empathy. While the husband effectuated his portion of the Jewish divorce ceremony, Jed sat for two hours with the wife while she waited nervously in her car. He displayed remarkable kindness and excellent lawyering skills all at once.
