In Memoriam: John Bickford (JD '11)
Pepperdine Caruso Law alumnus John Michael Bickford (JD ‘11) passed away on June 3, 2023, at the age of 37, after a long and brave battle with brain cancer. In addition to an alumnus beloved by his classmates, John was a loving father, husband, son and brother. He was described by his closest friends as kind-hearted, generous, selfless and always there for a friend. John was married to Andreea, also an alumna of the law school of the class of 2012. The Bickfords have two young daughters, ages 3 and 6. John worked for the Parris Law Firm after his graduation in 2011, and most recently for Justice Law Corporation.
In 2022, a group of alumni from the classes of 2011 and 2012 that are close friends of John and Andreea, organized a GoFundMe campaign to support the Bickford family during John’s battle with brain cancer. Pepperdine also held a prayer time remotely in October 2022 for the community to come together to pray for John and his family.
“Our hearts go out to the Bickford family. John was one of a kind: brilliant, hilarious, thoughtful, and a loving husband and father. He made his mark on the Pepperdine community as a great friend and classmate, the Los Angeles legal community as a respected and intelligent attorney, and in his personal life as a man devoted to his wife and family. John will be greatly missed, and we stand with the Bickford family as we pray for and support them in the days ahead,” said director of alumni relations Jessie Fahy (JD ‘11).
Alumna Catherine Baggett (JD ‘11), posted the following message on the Bickfords’ GoFundMe page with an option to honor John’s passing and his service information:
We are deeply sad to write this update and share that John passed away after his long and brave fight with brain cancer. Thank you to each and every one of you for your kindness, generosity, love and prayers in helping John and his family throughout this difficult time. We would like to be able to share all of our collective memories of John throughout his life for his family and so that his daughters, Emma and Chloe, will have access to those memories when they're older. John’s memorial service will be held in Simi Valley on Saturday, June 24th at 10am at Antioch Church located at 4555 Runway Street, Simi Valley, California 93063. All are welcome to attend.
John’s family is fundraising to have a commemorative bench installed at the Huntington Library in the children’s area in John’s memory, as it is a special place for John and his family. For those who wish to contribute, more information can be found at Memorial Donations for John Michael Bickford
