Externships at Paying Field Placements
The School of Law is aware of the ABA's new rules permitting externships where field placements pay students for their work. Until this month, students could not receive externship credit if they received compensation from their field placements. This semester, the faculty will work though our curricular processes to consider reforms to our internal rules and policies on this, which may expand our current limitations and provide opportunities to receive externship credit for paying positions.
In the meantime, if you have a paying position for which you would like to receive externship credit, please contact Prof. Richard Peterson or Prof. Jeff Baker to discuss your options. The Vice-Dean will consider provisional exceptions to the current rule based on individual situations until we generate new rules.
