Clinical Professors Cooper and Baker to Host Conference on Intimate Partner Violence

October is Domestic Violence, or Intimate Partner Violence, Awareness Month, and Pepperdine Law Clinical Professors Tanya Cooper and Jeff Baker are convening a conference next week, from October 12-13, 2017, to explore this widespread phenomenon as it occurs in the Church. In Search of Sanctuary, Strengthening the Church's Response to Intimate Partner Violence will address interdisciplinary and interdenominational responses to intimate partner violence from faith-based and secular experts.

"This conference will be incredibly diverse and inclusive, with perspectives on race, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, ability, religion, and socioeconomic status that intersect with intimate partner violence, which affects so many," Cooper said. Baker added that, "We will address intimate partner violence and the Church's role from various lenses, including law, psychology, theology, and lived experience."

This conference is a collaboration between the School of Law, Seaver College, and the Graduate School of Education and Psychology, and deans from all three schools and President Benton will participate. Dr. Roslyn M. Satchel (Seaver College) and Dr. Thema Bryant-Davis (GSEP) are co-organizers. Tickets are free for Pepperdine students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
