Anita Marks Wins Corporate Counsel Women of Color Scholarship Award

Pepperdine Caruso Law third-year student Anita Marks has won a Corporate Counsel Women of Color My Life as a Lawyer Scholarship Award. The scholarship supports law students of color who display outstanding legal talent, as well as a strong commitment and dedication to serving their communities. A committee made up of attorneys from corporations and private law practices selected the winners. Corporate Counsel Women of Color provides mentorship, networking, and community for in-house women attorneys of color in the United States and internationally.

Anita won the scholarship award based on an essay that addressed how she will use her law degree to contribute to diversity in the legal profession, which has always been an important mission for her.  She hopes to contribute to diversity in the legal profession by creating a non-profit in which she establishes a network of mentorship between Black lawyers and aspiring lawyers in high-school, college, and law school.

Anita comments, "This kind of mentorship would have been very beneficial to me as a first-generation college student. I remember trying to figure out how to fill out college applications and study for the SAT on my own; and then doing the same when applying to law school. Receiving this award because Corporate Counsel of Women of Color admired my dreams is an honor and I am very grateful."

Anita will be recognized at the Corporate Counsel of Women of Color's 18th Annual Career Strategies Conference that will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, in October 2022.
