Professor Sukhsimranjit Singh Leads International ADR Dialogues Amid Pandemic and Unrest

From the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Professor Sukhsimranjit Singh has led global conversations on the role of mediators, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) more broadly, in serving as problem solvers, conveners, and peacemakers during these challenging times.

On April 22, 2020, Professor Singh led the discussion, "Navigating Cross-Cultural Challenges in COVID-19," with Judge Danny Weinstein. Additionally, following the death of George Floyd and the national unrest that ensued, Professor Singh led "Mediating This Moment," a discussion on the role mediation professionals can play in creating spaces for dialogue and actions that advance justice. He was joined by Judges Danny Weinstein and Ann Williams on June 5, 2020.

Advancing the National Conversation on Virtual Mediation
Professor Singh has also been leading discussions on best practices for mediating online, in order to assist ADR practitioners with transitioning their business and clients online. Along with Straus' adjunct faculty member and accomplished mediator Steve Rottman, Esq, Professor Singh held "Mediating Remotely: Challenges and Benefits," on May 27, 2020. Then on June 11, he joined Judge Rebecca Westerfield and adjunct faculty member Leonardo D'Urso for Best Practices on Virtual Mediation through the Weinstein JAMS International Fellowship Program. Lastly, his seminar for Straus' Professional Skills Series also focused on Strategies and Best Practices for Online Mediation on June 19, 2020.

Discussing Religious Mediation at the ABA's Annual Conference on ADR
Professor Singh spoke in webinars on subject-related topics, including speaking at the American Bar Association's national conference for the Section on Dispute Resolution. HIs panel, "Religious Mediation and Dispute Resolution: Resolving Disputes within Different Cultures and Religions," took place on May 18, 2020. He joined Straus alumna Ximena Bustamante for a webinar, "Improving our Identity as Mediators," for the Mediators Poet Society, on May 30, 2020. Lastly, Professor Singh joined Straus alumnus Blazo Nedic and Professor D'Urso for an "International Seminar on Culture, Apology, and Mediation," through the ADR Center Global on May 15, 2020.
