Students Against Mass Incarceration Week | February 28 - March 3

It is time for the Pepperdine Caruso Law National Lawyers Guild's annual Week Against Mass Incarceration. We have partnered again with our friends at BLSA, NLLSA, CLS, and APIL to bring this always important week-long discussion to our law school. Each event will be from 12:30-1:30 PM on the front lawn and free food will be provided every day on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Our awesome list of speakers this year includes: L.A. Public Defender Ricardo Garcia, L.A. District Attorney Liaison Tiffiny Blacknell, formerly incarcerated activists "Big" John Harriel, Jr. and Michael Saavedra, and Professors of Law Ahilan Arulanantham and Frank Gilliam. Together, we will tackle topics such as the role of the prosecutor, immigrant detention, life after incarceration, homelessness, and most importantly how each of these feed into mass incarceration. As law students committed to liberty, equality, and justice for all, we at NLG consider it our duty to highlight these issues and bring these conversations to our community. As legal professionals in training, now is the most important time to gain a better understanding of the shortcomings and failures of our legal system. We hope you agree, and look forward to seeing you all this week.
