Straus Welcomes International Arbitration Luminaries to Campus

In February 2017, Straus Institute hosted two events where it welcomed distinguished international arbitration leaders to our Malibu campus. On February 10, Pepperdine Dispute Resolution Law Journal ("DRLJ") presented its annual Symposium, which included panelists Cedric C. Chao and Nathan D. O'Malley. Cedric C. Chao is the Head of DLA Piper's International Arbitration Practice and also has recently been appointed by the California Supreme Court to its International Commercial Arbitration Working Group. Nathan D. O'Malley leads Musick Peeler's International Arbitration Group as a partner of the Los Angeles firm. Both Cedric C. Chao and Nathan D. O'Malley shared their expertise in a panel discussion moderated by Professor Jack J. Coe Jr.

On February 22, Straus Institute and Baker McKenzie co-hosted "A Conversation with Lucy Reed-World Class International Lawyer."  Moderated by Straus Institute's Academic Director, Professor Thomas J. Stipanowich, the discussion included the well renowned Lucy Reed and Maria Chedid. Maria Chedid serves as chair of Baker McKenzie's Disputes Practice and an appointed member of the California Supreme Court's International Commercial Arbitration Working Group. In addition to the panel discussion, students had the opportunity to sit down with Lucy Reed during lunch hour to have informal conversation relating to the future of international arbitration and students' career prospects.
