Excerpt from "Memory, Culture, and Dispute Resolution: A Conversation with Dr. Sukhsimranjit Singh"
My interest is how is memory connected to people’s view of who they are and their rendezvous with conflict. Because what we do in conflict resolution is working at times with people’s memories -- their past. So before pushing them and saying let’s move on, let’s think about the future and resolution - which is of course, an important trick and we must focus on it -- we have to have this connection where are you coming from and what happened, or more importantly, what do you remember?
