National Sports Law Negotiation Competition: Rachel Luba and Alex Tabolsky take 4th

October 5, 2016 -- Pepperdine School of Law students Rachel Luba and Alex Tabolsky competed at the annual National Sports Law Negotiation Competition, which is hosted and organized by the Center for Sports Law & Policy at Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California.

The fact patterns for the Competition are based on current issues in the sports industry.  This year, a total of forty teams of student competitors negotiated select fictional disputes in an academic setting in front of a panel of judges, among them Marty Hochman, Assistant General Counsel of the Callaway Golf Company; James McCurdy, President of the Pioneer League; and Chad Payne, Vice President and General Counsel of The Players' Tribune.

After the first two rounds, Rachel and Alex earned the highest scores from the judges, which positioned them as the top seed among the four finalists going into the final round. After a closely matched final round, Rachel and Alex placed 4th overall.
