Lindsay Enriquez and Katie Henderson win 2017 Vincent S. Dalsimer Competition

February 27, 2017 | By Kylie Larkin -- Pepperdine Law students Lindsay Enriquez (2L) and Katie Henderson (2L) won the final round of the 2017 Vincent S. Dalsimer Competition, which took place on February 25 at the School of Law.  The team of Kyler Kelly (2L) and Nicole Hogan (2L) were the competition finalists.  In addition, the Best Oral Advocate was awarded to Henderson, and the Best Brief was awarded to Amber Kruggel (3L) and Mary-Kate Kelledy (2L).

The final round judges were Professor Barry McDonald, Principal Deputy Counsel of Los Angeles County Kim Nemoy, and Dean Deanell Tacha in her last appearance on the bench at the School of Law.  This year's case involved the foster and adoptive placements of a Native American child under the Indian Child Welfare Act, with both a statutory interpretation and an equal protection argument.

The Vincent S. Dalsimer Intraschool Team Appellate Advocacy Competition is the oldest and most prestigious moot court competition on the Pepperdine Law campus. Previous final-round benches have featured United States Supreme Court justices and other high-ranking members of the judiciary, as well as government officials from the United States and other countries. The winners of the competition will be honored at the Annual School of Law dinner, which will be held on March 3 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
