Honorable Jeffrey S. Boyd (JD '91) Receives 2020 American Inns of Court Professionalism Award for the Fifth Circuit

Pepperdine Caruso Law alumnus the Honorable Jeffrey S. Boyd (JD '91) has received the prestigious 2020 American Inns of Court Professionalism Award for the Fifth Circuit. After a pandemic-related delay, Justice Boyd received the award from Judge Carl E. Stewart of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and American Inns of Court Executive Director BG Malinda E. Dunn, USA (Ret.) at the Judicial Conference for the Fifth Circuit in Nashville, Tennessee, on May 5.

Justice Boyd serves on the Supreme Court of Texas. He was appointed to his seat in 2012 by governor Rick Perry and elected to six-year terms in 2014 and 2020. He previously clerked for the Honorable Thomas M. Reavely on the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and served as a senior partner at Thompson & Knight in Austin, Texas.

Justice Boyd has been active in the American Inns of Court. He co-founded the Barbara Jordan American Inn of Court in 2015 and serves as its counselor. "Our Inn…would not have been started, much less advanced to the point it has, without Justice Boyd’s participation and leadership from its inception to today," writes Eric J.R. Nichols, the Inn’s president, "Justice Boyd’s contributions to our Inn are steady and ongoing."

Justice Boyd will be recognized as the Distinguished Alumnus at the 2022 Pepperdine Caruso Law commencement ceremony to be held on May 20.
