Gunnar Gundersen (JD '07) Appointed to U.S. Commission on Civil Rights

Pepperdine Caruso Law alumnus Gunnar Gundersen (JD '07) was recently appointed to the US Commission on Civil Rights, California Advisory Committee. Gunnar and his wife Wendi (JD '08) are both graduates of Pepperdine Caruso Law, and work together at Gundersen & Gundersen LLP in Orange County, California.

Gunnar graduated as the Valedictorian of his class, and clerked for Judge O'Scannlain on the Ninth Circuit. He then worked on intellectual-property matters at Kirkland & Ellis LLP, Irell & Manella LLP, and Latham & Watkins LLP. He is licensed to practice law in California and Texas. Gunnar has stayed involved in the Pepperdine Caruso Law community by serving on Pepperdine Law Alumni Network of Orange County (PLAN-OC), and the Pepperdine University School of Law London Law Campaign and Advisory Committee.

Gunnar said, "I am honored to be selected to serve the United States and California in this capacity. I'm looking forward to building on the civil-rights work I have done as a lawyer to bring attention to civil-rights issues facing all Californians. As a Black multiethnic lawyer, I understand the importance of ensuring that everyone feels secure in their civil rights. I'm thankful that Pepperdine's focus on empowering lawyers to serve was part of my professional formation and has inspired me to continue to find ways to serve today."
