Molly McKibben (JD'10) named Consumer Attorney of the Year, helps earn $55 million in damages for TV reporter Erin Andrews
December 12, 2016 | By Alexa Brown -- Alumna Molly McKibben (JD '10) was part of a team of lawyers from Greene Broillet & Wheeler, LLP, who recently won a verdict awarding $55 million dollars in damages to client Erin Andrews, a former ESPEN reporter now working for Fox Sports and ABC. McKibben served as a mentor to law students through Pepperdine Law's Preceptor Program as well as acted as an editor on the Pepperdine Law Review during her time as a student. She has been named "Consumer Attorney of the Year" ('16), "Super Lawyers Southern California Rising Star," and "Up and Coming 50 Women Lawyers in Southern California for 2016," and is a graduate of the 2015 Consumer Attorneys of California Leadership Academy.
On being named Consumer Attorney of the Year, McKibben told Surf Report, "I feel incredibly honored to be chosen as a Consumer Attorney of the Year by the Consumer Attorneys of California for my work on the Andrews v. Marriott case, alongside my colleagues at Greene Broillet & Wheeler who also worked on the case, Bruce Broillet, Scott Carr, and Tobin Lanzetta. This high profile trial has resulted in significant changes to hotel procedures in order to insure the safety, security and privacy of hotel guests all over America, including California. SACRAMENTO (Nov. 12, 2016) – Bruce A. Broillet, Scott H. Carr, Tobin M. Lanzetta and Molly M. McKibben of Greene Broillet & Wheeler in Santa Monica are Consumer Attorneys of California's 2016 Consumer Attorneys of the Year for their work winning protections against stalking and cybercrimes in a high-profile case involving sportscaster Erin Andrews. The announcement was made Saturday night at the awards dinner as part of CAOC's 55th Annual Convention at The Palace Hotel in San Francisco.
Consumer Attorney of the Year is awarded to a CAOC member or members who significantly advanced the rights or safety of California consumers by achieving a noteworthy result in a case. Eligibility for Street Fighter of the Year is limited to CAOC members who have practiced law for no more than 10 years or work in a firm with no more than five attorneys. To be considered for either award the case must have finally resolved between May 15, 2015 and May 15, 2016, with no further legal work to occur, including appeals.
