Candice Jackson (JD '02) appointed to US Department of Education

March 23, 2017 | By Alexa Brown — Candice Jackson (JD '02) has accepted an appointment to serve at the US Department of Education as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights, and Acting Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights. After years of private practice, including anti-discrimination and civil rights litigation in California and Washington State, Jackson is honored to enter public service to focus on making sure all students have access to a quality education in an environment free from unlawful discrimination.

"I'm humbled by the opportunity to serve our country's students and schools by joining the Department of Education, focusing on enforcing the civil rights of all students," commented Jackson. "The faculty and administration at Pepperdine School of Law ensured that I received a foundation of legal knowledge, policy analysis, and ethics that has guided my career in private practice and now in government service. I am thankful for all that Pepperdine has given me and continue to be a proud and grateful alumnus."
