Straus Institute Launches Mediating the Litigated Case Globally in Switzerland
The Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution's popular Mediating the Litigated Case (MLC) professional training program is going global. In the first-of-its-kind Straus MLC Global, distinguished faculty, featuring nationally-recognized dispute resolution experts, will come together Pepperdine University’s new international campus in beautiful Hauteville, Switzerland, to equip participants with timely negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
Straus’ Mediating the Litigated Case Global: Switzerland offers a unique opportunity to learn about the mediation process in a format geared specifically toward civil litigators, in-house counsel, and dispute resolution professionals. Taught by experienced lawyers and dispute resolution professionals, this comprehensive program will provide a forum for direct, informal contact with the entire Straus faculty and world-renowned negotiation and mediation practitioners.
The program will focus on the various stages of the mediation process, identifying and working with different negotiation styles, and facilitating problem-solving. The training can apply whether the case involves contractual, tort, personal injury, employment, partnership, securities, or many other legal issues.
The program will also deal with issues specific to the adversarial environment including managing attorney advocates, the parameters of confidentiality, and concerns around discovery issues of particular concern to attorney-mediators will also be addressed, including the proscription against dual representation, providing legal advice, conflicts of interest, drafting mediation agreements, and other ethical dilemmas.
Topics taught in this training will include cross-border dispute resolution, neuro-behavioral understanding, and advanced impasse-breaking strategies. Course sessions will feature lectures, small group discussions, and practice exercises. Enrollment is limited to provide personalized instruction and ensure a close, dynamic relationship between the faculty and participants.
