Robert Simon (JD '05) Shares Justice HQ Law Firm Expertise
Pepperdine Caruso Law alumnus Robert Simon (JD '05) and his business partner and twin brother Brad, recently returned to Caruso Law remotely to present "Pursue Your Passion and Make Money Right Out of Law School." The seminar was well attended and extremely valuable to students who hope to begin their own law firms. The talk detailed how the Simon brothers built and scaled a law firm, with little saved money, into a firm that annually generates net profits in the eight figures. They taught the nuts and bolts on how to get started, useful technological solutions, how to conduct marketing, and actions students can take during law school to get a head start on their own firms.
"You can't teach hungry," Robert explained during the seminar, "was one of the best books and lessons I learned as a young trial attorney beginning my own firm. Brad and I had a father who was a truck driver and a stay at home mother, so we did not grow up with connections or information on how to start our own firm. We had to do all the heavy lifting ourselves, and we learned so much along the way."
Dean Paul Caron comments, "We need alumni like Bob to teach our students real world lessons on how to be successful on your own. It is imperative alumni like Bob return to campus to share their wisdom with our students so the next generation of Waves can be similarly successful. Bob has been so very generous with his time, talent, and treasure at Pepperdine Caruso Law. We are so glad Bob is one of ours, and Brad is our 'adopted' Wave."
The Simon brothers developed Justice HQ, which is a membership platform that brings lawyers of all specialties under one roof, both physically and virtually. In March of 2020, Justice HQ opened its first location in downtown Los Angeles. Amidst a pandemic, Justice HQ doubled its membership, opened its second location in Orange County, and is on track to open a third location in the South Bay. "Surprisingly, the pandemic has only helped our business," says Robert, "Many offices shut down and attorneys were looking for a space to collaborate virtually, and Justice HQ was that solution." In addition to providing their members with office space and amenities, Justice HQ allows new attorneys, who desire to maintain their autonomy but also require collaboration and networking opportunities, to grow their practice. All lawyers are independent, with individual equity in each case on which they collaborate. Justice HQ ensures that all of its members are quality, ethical, attorneys that will represent the community as a whole.
Robert is also the co-founder of the Simon Law Group and acts as the primary trial attorney. He is a member of legal associations such as ABOTA, CAALA, CAOC, CASD and OCTLA, and has received numerous awards for notable verdicts in California. He takes on many cases pro bono and donates a portion of his fees back to consumer oriented charities that support a safer America. Robert also helped found Pepperdine Caruso Law's Annual Southern California Trial Lawyers Conference.
