Professor Stephanie Blondell Presents "The Inspiration Intervention" -- Southern California Mediation Association Annual Conference 2023

Professor Stephanie Blondell presented "The Inspiration Intervention" at the closing plenary session for the Southern California Mediation Association's 35th Annual Fall Conference 2023. The conference, titled "Mediators in Action: Building Bridges and Empowering Choices," was held at Pepperdine Caruso Law on October 28. The conference focused on the role mediators play in skillfully motivating, connecting, and empowering people to come to successful resolutions to issues.

The Inspiration Intervention

Mediators utilize various interventions to coach parties from no to yes. Most of us listen, some of us reality test, others coach, and a few cajole. This plenary session explores the use of an arguably under-articulated mediator tool: inspiration. How do we inspire the parties as an impasse breaking technique? How does sparking insight settle cases?
