Professor Maureen Weston Leads Pepperdine Caruso Law Online Graduate Program Switzerland Study Tour on "Resolving International Commercial, Public, and Sports-Related Disputes"
Professor Maureen A. Weston led a select group of Pepperdine Caruso Law Online Graduate Program students for a week-long study tour in Geneva and Lausanne, Switzerland, on "Resolving International Commercial, Public, and Sports-Related Disputes." The class was the first Pepperdine student contingency to visit the new Pepperdine University Château d’ Hauteville campus.
The study tour included site visit tours and discussions with legal experts and foreign service diplomats at the World Trade Organization, the US Mission to the United Nations, the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Students were privileged to observe the president of the International Court of Justice present to delegates at the International Law Commission at the UN, and also tour the International Red Cross Museum. The students also engaged in a mock client counseling session and arbitration at WIPO.
Additional experiences included a Geneva city tour, boat tour, and a fondue cooking class with dinner. The students forged many lasting friendships and savored the Swiss landscape, culture, hospitality, and importance of international relations, dispute resolution mechanisms, and multilateralism diplomacy. Director of online programs Shaphan Roberts, events manager Kristen Lyming, and coordinator Will Andrea accompanied the students on the educational and memorable study tour.
