Former US deputy assistant secretary of state and law professor at Pepperdine University, Colleen Graffy, says Americans are now more than aware of the dangers of our changing climate.

"We realise especially in California and in Phoenix, Arizona, the repercussions from the devastating fires on the East Coast, the floods, the tornadoes, the increases in climactic occurrences that are just out of the ordinary," she said.

"And so it has everyone's attention. And I think there's a greater focus on how we can work as quickly as possible to achieve outcomes."

The interview may be viewed on Sky News Twitter (Professor Graffy at 1:44).
