Pepperdine/Straus American Inn of Court

The Pepperdine/Straus American Inn of Court for Dispute Resolution held a member luncheon program meeting on March 8 at Pepperdine's West LA campus, featuring speaker Charles Dick, Esq. who led an interesting and comprehensive discussion of implicit bias and its implications in dispute resolution. Mr. Dick is highly distinguished as a Fellow in the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, as a former partner in the global law firm Baker & McKenzie where he chaired that firm's North American Litigation Practice Group, and now as a full-time arbitrator and mediator with JAMS in San Diego, California.

The Inn of Court is one of several hundred nationally affiliated with the American Inns of Court, associating member lawyers, judges, professors and other legal and dispute resolution professionals from diverse levels and backgrounds, who share a common interest in the mentoring of students and young professionals and emphasize excellence, professionalism, civility and ethics. Its meetings provide the highest caliber dispute resolution continuing education qualifying for MCLE credit, in a setting that provides excellent opportunities for networking and collegial connection.

Upcoming programs include a dinner meeting at the downtown LA offices of the law firm Jones Day (Recent Developments in Arbitration and Mediation) on April 12, and a May 10 luncheon meeting to be held at the Graduate School of Business on Pepperdine's Malibu campus, jointly presented by teleconference with New Jersey's Marie Garibaldi Inn of Court for Alternative Dispute Resolution (Mixing Modes - our Growing Experience with the Interplay between Mediation, Evaluation and Adjudication). A year-end social event is scheduled for the evening of June 20 at the Jonathan Club in Santa Monica.
