Palmer Center Hosts Monty Moran (JD '93) Book Release Interview
On October 26, the Palmer Center for Entrepreneurship and the Law hosted former Chipotle Mexican Grill co-CEO Monty Moran (JD '93) for a discussion related to his new book, Love Is Free. Guac Is Extra: How Vulnerability, Empowerment, and Curiosity Built an Unstoppable Team. Pepperdine University Vice Chancellor and Professor Emeritus Janet Kerr (JD '78) interviewed Moran, who took her Corporations class during his time at Pepperdine Caruso Law and has stayed in touch since graduation.
Over 50 attendees listened to Kerr and Moran as they discussed his upbringing, law school experience, career trajectory, and leadership experience before, during, and after his pivotal role at the hugely-successful Chipotle Mexican Grill. Moran stressed the importance of not shaping your career for your own success, but for the success of those around you in order to gain true happiness and meaning. He explained his belief that the "work-life balance does not exist," and instead gave students, alumni, faculty and staff in attendance his advice on how to thrive on both fronts. Moran then spent time answering questions from the audience, which included his hiring practices and the importance of hiring for character.
Pepperdine University President Jim Gash (JD '93), a classmate of Moran's and friend from law school, will be interviewing Moran for his "Coffee With Jim" series on November 20, 2020.
