Hailey Benton-Thomas ('03, JD '08) Recognized in 40 Under 40 Professional Features
Pepperdine Caruso Law and Seaver College alumna Hailey Benton-Thomas ('03, JD '08) has been recently recognized in several "40 Under 40" features. Hailey's professional accomplishments have been highlighted in The Journal Record's "Achievers Under 40," The Secured Finance Network's "40 Under 40 Awards," and Oklahoma Magazine's "40 Under 40." Hailey is chief operating officer and general counsel for TBS Factoring Service, LLC, which provides financial solutions to small businesses and is based in Oklahoma City. Prior to TBS, Hailey was an employment lawyer and assistant managing attorney in the flagship office of Floyd, Skeren and Kelly, located in California, where she represented clients such as Verizon, Sysco, and several NFL teams. In addition to her work at TBS, she serves on the board of the Oklahoma Humane Society and the Capitol Hill High School Advisory Board.
From TBS Factoring Service:
Benton-Thomas graduated from Pepperdine University with a B.A. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology. After spending several years as a Human Resources consultant, she returned to Pepperdine and earned her Juris Doctorate. While at Pepperdine, she competed in advocacy competitions, volunteered in the Los Angeles Homeless Legal Aid, and clerked with (Retired) Chief Justice Deanell Reece Tacha of the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Upon graduation, her legal expertise, combined with her ability to understand and empathize with the employer's perspective, made her a highly sought employment law litigator and speaker in Southern California. As her career progressed, she found her true passion for training and developing others which led her to become the managing attorney of her firm's flagship office and the youngest associate in firm history to be on the partner track.
In 2014, Benton-Thomas moved her family to Oklahoma to join TBS Factoring Service in the role of Director of Human Resources/Corporate Counsel. TBS quickly recognized her talent and moved her into the C-suite as the company's first Chief Operating Officer. During her time with TBS, she has become an indispensable member of the leadership team capable of any task assigned to her.
In this expanded capacity she has helped to transform the company, introducing a Leadership Development and Mentor program that has recently been expanded to help Oklahoma nonprofits.
