Graduate Law Teaching Fellow

The School of Law's Master of Legal Studies degree program seeks several upper-division JD students to serve as Graduate Law Teaching Fellows for Law in Practice, a two-day intensive residency course on October 5-6, 2018.

Graduate Law Teaching Fellows will assist Professor Baker and adjunct faculty to teach and coach teams of graduate students in mock litigation. The course will put graduate students in role as client and lawyers in mock civil litigation, plaintiff teams versus defendant teams. The major goals are to demonstrate the client-lawyer relationship; to explore concepts in tort, civil procedure, evidence, and general litigation; and to explore how law works in practice. Professors will lead each side of the litigation, and Graduate Law Teaching Fellows will coach and guide litigation teams in various mock exercises in the litigation: deposition, negotiation, and hearing practice, including oral argument.

Graduate Law Teaching Fellow will receive $200 for the work of preparation and teaching assistance on two full days of work. The course will require 10-12 hours of work for both days of the course and some limited preparation time with the course professors. All meals will be provided during the days of the course.

Students are preferred who have completed trial advocacy courses or mock trial competitions. Students with experience in litigation or who have completed related courses like pretrial practice, Lawyering Process, Appellate Advocacy, or negotiation, mediation, or litigation ADR courses are also encouraged to apply.

The deadline for applications is Friday, September 14, although faculty will review applications when received.
