Bassil Madanat (JD '12) Founds MAD IP Law Firm
Pepperdine Caruso Law alumnus and 1L Preceptor Bassil Madanat (JD '12) has founded his own law firm, MAD IP, which focuses on intellectual property strategy, due diligence and counseling for companies of all sizes and within various industries.
Bassil is a registered patent attorney who began his IP career at a boutique firm in Century City, advising start-ups and Fortune 500 companies on their patent, trademark, trade secret, licensing and other commercial matters. He has also served as an extern for the Honorable Dana Sabraw of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, worked in Legal Affairs at FOX and clerked for the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy under President Barack Obama.
Although Bassil had long dreamed of opening his own shop, the timing of his new venture was very intentional. "It sounds counterintuitive, but Covid was the game changer for me and compelled me to start my own law firm. At the drop of a hat, thousands of companies' business needs suddenly changed, and the legal landscape was not adapting fast enough to efficiently serve them. I wanted to start a firm that provided me with the creative latitude to roll with the punches and evolve at the same rate as my clients." In addition to his substantive law practice, Bassil also offers seminars on IP education in the workplace.
