Straus Institute at Mackenzie University's Exchanging Hemispheres Program

As a continuance to the success of the partnership between Mackenzie University and Pepperdine, the Straus Institute was honored to participate last January in the second edition of Mackenzie's Exchanging Hemispheres Program.

The program takes part during the Brazilian summer at the beautiful campus of Mackenzie University in São Paulo. The program was created for the nurturing of better professionals and the evolution of our civil society, by providing students from all over the world with an opportunity to be exposed to the newest advancements in the practice of law, and to the vanguard of legal trends in the international arena. It was conceived by the brilliant minds of Mackenzie's Dean of the School of Law Prof. Felipe Chiarello, its Director of International Programs, Professor Pedro Buck, and its Coordinator of Public Affairs, Professor Regina Barone; all long-time friends of the Straus Institute.

This year's program included courses and discussion panels. The Straus Institute was represented by Professor Jim Craven, who taught the Mediation Theory and Practice course, and Professor Marcelo Rosadilla, who taught the Negotiation Theory and Practice course. In addition, Universidade de Lisboa's Professor Maria do Rosário Palma Ramalho taught a Labor and Employment Law course, American University's Professor Alexander Morawa taught a Regional and Universal Human Rights System towards International Justice course, and Professor Alan Russel from London South Bank University taught the Access to Justice course.

All the courses added to the follow-up discussion panels were extremely successful, and received stellar reviews from the students, professionals and academics involved. They also allowed for Pepperdine to further solidify its presence in the Brazilian legal arena.
