Professor William Nix Speaks at United Nations SDG Media Zone 2025
Adjunct professor William Nix, who teaches Entertainment Disputes at the Straus Institute, brought his expertise in storytelling and impact media to the global stage at the United Nations during Climate Week in New York.
On September 24, Nix served as a featured panelist for "From Radium Girls to Planetary Health: Stories for a Livable Future." The session showed how storytelling can mobilize awareness, resources, and policy change by connecting historic struggles, such as the Radium Girls’ fight for justice, with today’s planetary health and climate equity movements. Nix shared insights from his work at the intersection of media, philanthropy, and social impact investment, emphasizing how stories can unlock new forms of capital and inspire collective action.
On September 25, Nix moderated "Storytelling as a Catalyst for Cultural and Community Transformation." The panel explored how documentary filmmaking amplifies urgent global challenges into narratives that mobilize audiences worldwide. Under his guidance, filmmakers and creative leaders will discuss how their projects drive measurable impact across environmental innovation, human rights, and economic justice.
With decades of experience producing and financing socially conscious media, professor Nix also brings his expertise into the classroom at the Straus Institute. His dedication to his students reflects his commitment to preparing the next generation of dispute resolution professionals to navigate the unique challenges at the intersection of law, culture, and entertainment.
