"States and practitioners are watching the case closely because the DOJ intervened at the 11th hour and isn’t subject to the tax, said Deanna Newton, a Pepperdine University Law School tax professor.
“If the court allows this intervention, the federal government could step into more state tax disputes,” she said. “If the court rejects it, it reinforces that state tax matters stay mostly at the state level,” she said.
