Professor Bernard James Speaks on School Safety at Colorado Summit
Professor Bernard James was the keynote speaker at the Roaring Fork School Safety Summit in Colorado on June 13. Professor James led a four-hour discussion with local school district and sheriff's office representatives on the state of school safety and the rights of students, teachers, school resource officers, and general law enforcement. He explained case law and the distinctions between Colorado and federal law.

While the United States is in a historic cycle of school shootings and gun violence, James’ message was that it is the role of educators, school resource officers and law enforcement to boldly step in when there’s a suspicion of something awry.
Among James’ specialties is educating educators on their rights and protections.
“You exist to intervene,” James said multiple times.
