Pepperdine Caruso Law Alumni Impress Sports Law Students with Combat Sports Presentation
Pepperdine Caruso Law alumni Audie Attar (MDR '09, MBA '08) and Jordan Lee (JD '19) spoke to Professor Maureen Weston's Sports Law class on combat sports agency and management. Attar is the founder and CEO of Paradigm Sports Management, a co-founder at Eire Born Spirits, and manager and business partner of mixed martial artist and boxer Conor McGregor. Lee is a combat sports agent and attorney at Paradigm Sports who focuses on the Asia-Pacific region.
Attar and Lee spoke on the nuances of a sports agent's duties, including the values of brand recognition, the skills required to achieve success in the field, as well as predictions for legal issues facing combat sports today. Lee recounted her path from being a student at Pepperdine Caruso Law to being an agent in one of the most prolific sports management firms and the position of women in combat sports, both as agents and as fighters. She also discussed how pending federal regulations similar to the Muhammed Ali Act, a piece of legislation that protects boxers and holds managers and organizers responsible for their actions, may affect the mixed martial arts landscape in the coming years.
Professor Weston's class was thoroughly engaged and grateful for Attar and Lee's professional insight.
