Pepperdine Legal Aid Clinic Receives Grant

Pepperdine Caruso School of Law's Legal Aid Clinic, directed by Professor Brittany Stringfellow Otey, has been awarded a $35,000 grant for its Covenant House-Pepperdine Legal Aid project. Covenant House is the largest youth shelter-provider in California, providing street outreach, housing, and wrap-around services to youth in need. This grant from the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services allows the Pepperdine Legal Aid Clinic to provide legal aid assistance to young people experiencing homelessness in the Hollywood area.

Pepperdine Legal Aid Clinic, which also provides legal services at Union Rescue Mission in downtown Los Angeles' skid row, expanded its outreach to include Covenant House in 2017. Supervising Attorney Sarah McKendricks (JD '13) is on site at Covenant House, providing assistance with a wide variety of legal issues, including landlord-tenant, expungement, immigration, and human trafficking.
