Leaving India

At the airport I was surprised how quickly the summer went, as I would soon begin
my final year of law school. Delhi was a time of great reflection for me. When I first
arrived in India, it seemed as though I would have so much time there, maybe too much.
I felt that way for most of the summer, until it was time for me to leave.id="attachment_549"

KashmirMy work for the Counsel to Secure Justice provided an opportunity to glance
into the intricacies of India's justice system. I had the opportunity to observe
judicial training sessions at the Karkardooma Courts, where justices would express
the issues they were facing. This gave me insight to the dilemmas and concerns faced
by Indian judges. Unlike in the States, there is no jury system and the judge is responsible
for determining the guilt or innocence of the accused, and subsequent sentencing.
In addition to the work I was doing, I had the opportunity to view the beauty in rural regions of the country as well. While Delhi was a fast and loud metropolis, the mountains of Kashmir were tranquil and breathtaking. India is a place of many landscapes, which I will always remember.
