Pepperdine Caruso School of Law alumna Laura D. McFarland (JD ‘93) successfully completed two details to the Executive Offices of the President of the United States Office of Management and Budget (OMB) between January 2022 and April 2023.  McFarland is senior counsel at the Farm Credit Administration in McLean, Virginia. The OMB assists the President in meeting policy, budget, management, and regulatory objectives, and to fulfill the agency's statutory responsibilities.

The details were part of the OMB Professional Development Exchange and Training Program for emerging leaders in the federal government and involved intensive, full-time work experiences at OMB.  McFarland worked in the OMB Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, which is the central authority for the review of Executive Branch regulations, approval of government information collections, establishment of government statistical practices, and coordination of federal privacy policy.  Among her assignments was reviewing significant proposed regulations from the Department of Education on Title IX, Free Inquiry, and various student loan forgiveness programs.
