Jeff Baker and Chalak Richards present "LLM (Law, Learning & Motivation): Transforming Legal Education via Learning and Motivation Principles" -- AALS Annual Meeting
Associate Dean Jeff Baker and Dean of Students Chalak Richards presented on a panel for the Section for Associate Deans at the AALS Annual Meeting in San Diego. With Dr. Nickey Wood and Prof. Deepika Sharma of the University of Southern California, they addressed learning and motivation theory. They discussed strategies and methods for teaching with intrinsic motivations and advancing self-efficacy for students, all with the aim of preparing students for excellent, resilient, ethical, and whole careers.
From the conference program:
Legal education and support are often described as entrenched in traditional methods of teaching and assessing student learning. Pedagogical considerations in law school classrooms and law school support systems rarely include a focus on how learning and motivation theory, and their practical applications, can positively impact the law student experience. In this session, participants will learn how to apply learning and motivation principles in the law school, with the overall goal of maximizing student learning and engagement, including a focus on self-regulation, goal setting, self-evaluation, cognitive load, emotions, and self-efficacy.
