JD Candidate Grant Royal Recognized as Veteran of the Year
On June 21, California Assemblymember Richard Bloom (D-Santa Monica) honored current Pepperdine
Law student Grant Royal as Veteran of the Year for the 50th Assembly District. Assemblymember
Bloom said:
"Grant distinguished himself as a leader and teacher during his service in the Marine Corps," said Bloom. Today he distinguishes himself by serving as a role model and assisting other veterans as they re-integrate into civilian life. I want to personally thank him for his contributions to our country, our state, and our community."
From 2004 to 2012, Grant served in the United States Marine Corps, deploying three times and leading a 6-man combat team during Operation Iraqi Freedom with the First Battalion First Marines. He was part of the 1st Marine Division stationed at Camp Pendleton for his entire enlistment. After leaving the Marines in 2012, Grant earned his degree in Anthropology from UCLA where he also worked at the campus Veteran Resource Center, helping veterans as they re-integrated to civilian life.
Grant currently serves as Vice President of the Veterans Legal Society and works as a volunteer Law Clerk at the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office in the Hardcore Gang Division.
