"Diversity Works" Symposium: Pepperdine Institute of Entertainment, Media and Culture
On Friday, November 4, 2016, from 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm, Pepperdine University's Institute of Entertainment, Media and Culture will host a "Diversity Works" Symposium at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica.
From the conference description:
Diverse perspectives are sweeping through the entertainment business, how are new stories and voices transforming media? The shifting media landscape ranges from the impact of Black Lives Matter to how women are tackling gender bias, and from stories of intergenerational characters to the movement to recognize those of us with disabilities.
Experience how diversity works, on the occasion of the American Film Market (AFM), which is the industry's largest international conference, attended each year by over 8,000 industry professionals. Join in the discussion with Quincy Newell of Lionsgate, Britta Wilson of Pixar, and Christina Lee Storm of DreamWorks Animation. Hear how Charles Howard, Co-Chair of the Producers Guild of America's Diversity Committee, and Scott Bowling of the Exceptional Children's Foundation are taking inclusion to a new level with Media Access. And in an unexpected twist, learn from Laura Richards, the Scotland Yard criminologist who gives a voice to the voiceless in discussing how she reexamines The Case of: JonBenet Ramsey in a four-hour limited event docu-series on CBS.
Moderated by Pepperdine's Joi Carr and Roslyn Satchel, Diversity Work$ is hosted by Craig Detweiler of Pepperdine's Institute for Entertainment, Media, and Culture in a series of lively and evocative discussions about the evolution of the business in light of greater diversity and inclusion.
Other than pre-paid parking, it's open and free to Pepperdine students, faculty, alumni, members of the industry and the general public.
